Keep your school safe. Students almost always hear about illegal and other activities in school. Many students would report these activities if they knew they could remain anonymous. They can and here's how:
School Crime Line allows all callers to remain anonymous. While statistics show that 94% of reports are from students who wish to do the right thing, some students need the incentive of a monetary award. A control number which must be remembered to receive an award is assigned to each caller and no names are ever taken. The operator will ask for information pertaining to the crime or safety hazard that is being reported. Should the information be of use in eliminating a safety hazard, preventing a crime, or solving a crime, an award of up to $100 will be payable to the caller.
What should be reported? Any information that constitutes a crime or presents a danger or threat to students or staff of the school should be reported. Incidents away from school may also be reported. Some examples of incidents that should be reported are:
What happens with the information? All information will be documented and forwarded to the School Administration for action. If the information concerns a past criminal matter, it will be forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement jurisdiction for investigation. The Crime Line Board of Directors will determine what award is due, and set the amount of the award.
Awards: How do I get paid? While most students just want an anonymous avenue to report what they believe to be wrong, some may want to be compensated for their good deeds. A tipster may call the Crime Line number (344-8500), give his/her assigned control number, and check to see if any award is due.
When a tipster entitled to an award calls the Crime Line number, arrangements will be made for anonymous payment of the award at a local business using the assigned control number. No name will ever be used.
Control numbers due an award may also be posted or announced at the schools.
